Hopper bottom silos (alternatively called cone bottom silos, hopper bottom storage bins, hopper bins) are steel silos with a cone-shaped bottom. They are assembled on the supporting structure to allow the unloading of delicate products easily with the help of gravity.
Hopper silos include a smooth wall hopper transition minus any steps or flanges to offer the cleanest product discharge from the silo. Products that are stored inside these silos are at a safe distance from the ground, thereby avoiding any exposure to the humidity and allowing the interconnection of silos through tapes along with perfect extraction or dosage.
The hopper, rings and support steel used by Everyday Steels are made of hot-dip galvanised steel sheets. All their hopper cones for grain bins are conceived per D-4097 or ASTM D-3299 standards for elevated cone heads. Depending on the stored grain products and storing situations, the hopper or cone angles are commonly designed at an angle of 45º or 60º
The structure of the hopper bottom silo offered by Everyday Steels depends on the client's requirement for the type of products to be stored. In most cases, free-flowing pellet products like corn, wheat, soybean and feed pellets need the hopper bottom silo with a 45° angle while powder or other material which is hard to flow fits 60° cone bottom silo storage.
Hopper Bottom SILO Applications
Hopper bottom silos are commonly used for the storage of grains (sunflower seeds, soy, maize, sorghum, rice, industrial products and other products, etc.) along with feed pellets for animals, poultry and fish that need special storage conditions. In addition to that, they can also serve as temporary storage of wet grain as part of a grain drying plant and other buffer bin applications in silo plants. They are often used in poultry farms, rice mills, flour mills, soybean-oil mills, animal feed mills and brewery plants.
